Demond Wilson’s Career After Sanford and Son

Although Lamont Sanford became Wilson’s signature role, he continued working after the sitcom ended.

He appeared in television productions including Baby… I’m Back! and later played Oscar Madison in The New Odd Couple. He also took on film and television appearances at various points throughout his career.

However, Wilson eventually made a major change in his professional life.

Rather than remaining focused exclusively on Hollywood, he moved toward faith and ministry.

Why Demond Wilson Left Hollywood

During the 1980s, Wilson became an ordained minister and stepped away from mainstream entertainment for a period.

His decision marked a significant change from his years as a television star. He devoted more attention to ministry, writing and helping others, while also focusing on his family.

Wilson later became involved with Restoration House of America, a ministry focused on helping former inmates rebuild their lives. His later work reflected a very different side of the man audiences had known primarily as Lamont Sanford.

His transition from sitcom actor to minister became one of the most interesting chapters of his life.
