I had imagined my wedding night a thousand times.
The laughter, the flowers, the quiet moment when the guests had gone home and my husband and I would finally begin our new life together. It was supposed to be a memory we would treasure forever.
Instead, it became a lesson I never expected.
The celebration had lasted late into the evening, and everyone was exhausted. Just as I finished removing my makeup, the bedroom door opened.
“Mom has had too much to drink,” my husband said. “Let her rest here for a while.”
My mother-in-law, usually strict and controlling, stood in the doorway holding a pillow. Her face was flushed, and she could barely keep her balance.
I was ready to help her settle on the couch downstairs, but my husband stopped me.
“Let Mom sleep here tonight,” he said casually. “It’s only one night.”
One night.
Our wedding night.
